kinda like fishing

The gospels are accounts of the life of Jesus.  2 of the books tell about Jesus starting the journey with those he trained.  It seems like at the start Jesus tells them that they will be fishers of men.  They will learn and help others.

still thinking on this; so, what does it mean to be a fisher of men.  somehow people who caught fish would now learn to catch men?

  1. This one had me thinking about what it meant to be a fisherman when Mark was written.
I've always approached "fishing for men" kind of like spear fishing. I wait until I see someone to target and then I tell them about the side of my life I don't share quite so publicly (my relationship with Christ).
The men Jesus was talking to weren't spear fishers. They fished with nets. I am starting to think that maybe when Jesus says to fish for men it looks a little more like consistently being more open about my faith and how it affects who I am (throwing out my net). I don't have too much control over the fish, but I have faith and eagerly expect that God will bring the fish.
